Can we meet you
I am Tosin Aiyenigba S. I hail from a small town in Kogi State, Okun region(the Yoruba-speaking part). Although I have worked at different organizations including a pure-water factory, an audit firm, a construction company, etc., I currently handle the position of a payables officer in the finance department at The Wheatbaker, Lagos. I have been in this position since April 2021.
Tell us what attracted you to join The Wheatbaker
If I am being honest, at the time, I just needed a job and was referred to The Wheatbaker for a job opening. However, when I arrived on the day of my interview, I just knew this was where I wanted to be. The relaxed ambiance and beauty of the place gave me a sense of security and the rest is history
What does your typical day look like for you
A typical day for me at The Wheatbaker can be pretty intense. From preparing and collating invoices to capturing the same invoices, also having to make payments to suppliers, going to the bank to make deposits and get cash on behalf of the company, especially during this cash crunch season while also meeting deadlines, preparing reports, audits just to name a few, can be challenging sometimes but in the end, I handle it like a boss
What do you enjoy most about working with your team
I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said my team is the best in the company. What I enjoy most about my team is that you are not judged by your flaws but by your results and this makes it a conducive environment to work and learn. The level of understanding, maturity, and competence I am surrounded by is refreshing. Everyone has a defined role and they carry it out diligently.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work
I am a football lover, an unapologetic Barcelona fan, and yes, an automatic Messi fan (The G.O.A.T). I also don't shy away from movies. In my spare time, however, I love making smoothies, trying out different combinations of ingredients to get a feel of what it might taste like, and I'd like to think the results are usually to die for
What department would you like to work in the hotel if there is cross-training
I would say Human Resources, they have a structure similar to Accounts.
What is your favorite place to travel to and why
Quite hard but maybe Spain, I'd love to see a Barcelona match live.
What is one interesting fact about you that most people don’t know
One interesting thing to know about me is that I thought I knew how to swim until I didn't. To put it into context, when I was younger, we used to go to the river and I would swim in the shallow parts but then adulthood hit and I went out to swim with some friends, let's just say being tall is an advantage in this case, because I didn't swim, I floated and thankfully my feet could touch the bottom of the pool.
How do you see the role of accounting evolving in the next few years
We have come a long way from the more traditional record and bookkeeping to more advanced, technologically integrated, and sophisticated systems. With technology and the Internet becoming a more prominent and automated part of our lives, we have seen a general and extensive adoption of cloud computing and accounting software. In a few years from now, accounting will become even more flexible and have easier accessibility, afterwards enabling accountants to work remotely and provide users of financial information and clients with real-time access to financial data
